He was a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Davis was a resident of El Mirage for 23 years. Davis was born Nov. 8, 1930, in Pasadena. His family moved to Valley Center where he graduated from Escondido High School in June, 1949. He enlisted in the United States Army Reserve and was called to active duty in 1953. He was a member of the American Foreign Legion. He married his first wife, Olita, on November 23, 1957. Davis was working for the California Department of Forestry as a firetruck firefighter. He was first stationed in Temecula. Eventually he became fire captain and was stationed at Ripley. At that time the fire station was both a house for the captain and his family to live in and the other side was the living quarters for the firefighters. When Davis retired in 1984, the house was the last in the state of California and was converted to firefighter's quarters. When he moved to El Mirage, Davis was still very active in firefighting, volunteering for the now closed El Mirage Fire Department. He also spent many hours volunteering for the El Mirage Improvement Association. After his first wife passed, Davis met up with an old friend of more than 30 years and sparks kindled their relationship. He married Joyce Davis on his birthday, Nov. 8, 2003. He still kept in touch with his high school friends and would meet for quarterly breakfasts down in Escondido. Everyone who knew him would say that he loved to smile, was a practical joker and was generally interested in his family and friends. He was an avid fisherman, loved to collect rocks and any other thing that interested him and he enjoyed camping. Davis is survived by his wife, Joyce Davis; son, Jim Davis and his wife Gail; daughter, Karen Sicard and her husband Rick; grandchildren, twins Eric and Eli; twins Colleen and Jennifer; and Oren; six great-grandchildren; brother, Paul Davis and his wife Betty; and sister, Laurel Ann McGee. He is also survived by nephews, nieces and adopted kids everywhere. Memorial services will be at noon, Saturday, Feb. 23, at the El Mirage Community Center, 1488 Milton, also known as Community Lane, El Mirage. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Visiting Nurses Association of the Inland Counties, in memory of Donald E. Davis, 6235 River Crest Drive, #L, Riverside, CA 92507.
