All persons donating to this site retain the rights to their own work. Daily Press; 2/23/2008 Eileen Merle Boyer Gosset, 85, of Oklahoma City, Okla., passed away Feb. 20, 2008, after a brief illness. She was the only child of Dade Claire and Edna "LaReta" Boyer, born on Jan. 7, 1923, in Tangier, Okla. She spent her childhood in Tangier, Three Sands, Douglas, Stillwater, and Kingfisher, Okla. She graduated in 1940 from Kingfisher High School, where her father taught agriculture and headed the FFA and 4-H programs. She attended the University of Oklahoma and graduated in 1944 with a bachelor of music degree in violin. She married LeRoy Edwin Gosset, USMC, on Jan. 28, 1945, in Norman, Okla., and the couple took up residence in Oklahoma City shortly thereafter. She played violin with the Oklahoma City Symphony for nine years under Victor Alessandro and Guy Fraser Harrison during the 40's and early 50's and was employed at WKY Radio for awhile. She was a newspaper reporter in Jacksonville, N.C., and Cub Scout den mother after her husband was transferred to Camp LeJeune in 1954. The family moved to Barstow in 1958, where she resided until 2001. She obtained a masters degree in education at Redlands and then taught kindergarten and second grade at Lenwood and Grandview schools. She was the church organist and pianist at the First United Methodist Church for 43 years and gave private music lessons in violin, piano, and beginning organ. In 2001 she returned to Oklahoma City, living next door to her daughter. She was an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church. In later life she became the Will Rogers of the animal kingdom - she never met an animal she didn't like. She had four children, Jon, born 1946; Jackie, born 1949; Lee, born 1950; and Jim, born 1953. She is survived by daughter, Jackie Gosset Karban and husband, Victor of Oklahoma City, Okla.; son, Lee Gosset and wife, Debbie of Oklahoma City, Okla., and son, Jim Gosset and wife, Carolyn of Waipahu, Hawaii. Grandchildren include, Stacey DeMarco Andrews and husband, Will, Carrie DeMarco, Vicki Karban Adams and husband, Mike, Jennifer Gosset Lance and husband, Charles, Charlie Gosset and wife, Cristy, Shane Okamura, Nora Okamura Robinson and husband, Byron, and Brian Gosset; great-grandchildren include, Gabrielle and Gillian Andrews, C.J., Joshua, and Joseph Lance, and Danielle and Amy Gosset and great-granddaughter Adams is on the way. Memorial service to be held at the Wesley United Methodist Church, 1401 NW 25th Street, Oklahoma City, Okla., on Saturday, March 22, at 7:00 p.m.
