All persons donating to this site retain the rights to their own work. "Big Bear Grizzly"; Date Unknown Virgie T. Lea 87, passed March 1, 2005, at Bear Valley Community Hospital. She was Born May 19, 1917 in Byrdstown, Tenn., and was a long-time resident in Big Bear, having moved here in the spring of 1956. Local folks will remember her for having been a waitress and cook at Chad's, the Pine Cone and the old Navajo Hotel. Virgie was preceded in death by her eldest son Virdel Keene in September 2001. She is survived by two daughters, Virdella Yarbrough of Cordele, Ga., and Karen Geiger of Big Bear Lake; and son Donald (Kenne) Readel of Williamson, Va. She also leaves behind nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. After her retirement, she resided with the Hanford family of Big Bear Lake until 1999 when she became a resident at Bear Valley Community Hospital where she served as vice-president and president of the Resident Council. Virgie will be missed by family, friends and extended family of residents and staff at Bear Valley Community Hospital. A memorial service was held at Bear Valley Community Hospital on Sunday March 6, 2005. Big Bear Mortuary, Directors
