All persons donating to this site retain the rights to their own work. "Big Bear Grizzly"; Date Unknown Hazel Esther Wheeler 88, passed Jan. 16, 2005. Born Jan. 19, 1916, (Hazel was just shy of her 89th birthday) in Manhattan Beach, Calif., she was a teacher from 1940 through 1974. In 1986, Hazel moved to Big Bear as a permanent resident with her husband, William Adelbert Wheeler. She is survived by her son, William Earling Wheeler; nephew, Charles Uhlmann and his family of Tokyo, Japan; and niece Verna Cummings and her family of Binghamton, New York. Hazel was a long-time active member of the Latter Day Saints ward in Big Bear and will be missed by her many friends in the community.
