San Diego Union, March 10, 1898

     Walter Sherman of Poway, a forty-niner who has resided in the county
twenty-five years or more, died yesterday. He was a native of Michigan 
and a member of the state militia during the war. He leaves a wife and
two children.

San Diego Union, March 14, 1898

     Walter Sherman, of Poway, died on the 8th, aged 68 years. The funeral
services were held on the 10th at the Baptist church at Poway, with inter-
ment in the Dearborn cemetery.
